The February meeting of the Hershey Apple Core will be held on February 8, starting at 6:30 PM at our new meeting place, The Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, 4750 Lindle Road Harrisburg, PA 17111.

Yes, our very, very long tradition of meeting at the Hershey Public Library has come to an end. As we discussed at our January meeting, due to budget cuts, the library has changed their closing time to 8 PM, which just doesn’t give us adequate time for a meaningful meeting. Thanks to HAC member Arvy Svalbonas, however, we have a bright, shiny new place to get together each month…The Board Room of The Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania! On Lindle Road right beside the Sheraton Harrisburg/Hershey, it is only minutes away from the Library, with each access from pretty much every direction. Directions to the meeting can be found on the HAP web site.

We hope the change won’t affect your attendance. The new facilities offer lots of new opportunities and possibilities for our meetings. You will understand once you see it. We have only one restriction, and it isn’t one that will cause any problems: no food or drink in the Board Room, please. Other than that, it is business as usual!

This month, we’ll wrap up all the excitement from Macworld | iWorld 2012. Chuck spent the week working the show floor, and will bring back his impressions, updates on the coolest new products, a report on all the new events and parties that marked a new direction for the show, and more.

Of course, we will have our always-informative Question and Answer Session, and our Meeting-After-The-Meeting dinner at…well, we don’t quite know yet. The new location offers many choices, so we’ll be taking votes and heading out for a new culinary adventure, so plan to come hungry.

The weather isn’t bad enough to keep yo home, so you have no excuse not to come out with your HAC friends and see our new meeting place!

Our first meeting of 2012 will feature a discussion of managing your ebook library on both the iPad and Kindle. Sure, you can do it by hand, but we’ll show you a terrific utility that not only manages your library, but also handles conversions between ebook formats.

We will also discuss some changes that are coming to HAC. If you were at our last meeting, you know that access to the Hershey Public Library is changing. We will discuss some options open to us and what they mean for the future of the group. Your input in these decisions is both wanted and needed..and no, you won’t be drafted for anything. We promise.

We’ll also have our usual Question & Answer session where we all learn something, and our Meeting-After-The-Meeting at Fuddruckers. Come on out and enjoy the first meeting of the year with your friends at HAC.

We’ll wrap up the year with some Apple-oriented holiday gift ideas for you and yours. Sure, there are some obvious choices; we will cover those, plus some we bet you haven’t thought about. We want you to bring your ideas too since no one can keep track of everyone. Whether it is Mac, iOS, digital photography, or tech in general, we have something for everyone.

This month will be something new for the Hershey Apple Core. We will have a joint meeting with the Bay Area Macintosh Users Group in Florida via Skype. Our special virtual guest will be Adam Engst of TidBITS and Take Control ebooks. Adam is one of the most respected people in the Mac community, and also is a member of the MacNotables panel, so we will be participating in a live recording of the show…and if the Internet gods smile on us, it will be video! Adam will be talking about OS X Lion, a world without Steve Jobs, the iPhone 4S, and taking questions from the audiences at both groups.

We will distribute all the wisdom that inevitably arises from our Question and Answer session, and will head out to Fuddruckers for the Meeting-After-The-Meeting at the end of the evening.

We hope to see you at this very special meeting, and Adam Engst’s very first appearance at HAC.

Like so many, we are mourning the loss of Steve Jobs. Our October meeting will include a discussion of the contributions this remarkable man made to technology, to our culture, and to each of us.

iTunes Match is coming soon, making it the perfect time to clean up your iTunes library and get it ready to be accessible on your iDevice anywhere you are. We’ll show off TuneUp along with some key AppleScripts and strategies to help you clean up the tags and artwork.

There are lots of note programs for the Mac, each with their own features and advantages. We’ll take a look at TopXNotes from Tropical Software and what it brings to the organizational software space. We’ll even have a copy to raffle off.

Out last meeting before our summer break will be one of our best of the year: Bob “Dr. Mac” LeVitus returns to HAC as part of his annual Mid-Atlantic MUG Tour.

You may know Bob from his previous appearances at HAC, from his The Houston Chronicle column, his articles at The Mac Observer, his discussions on MacNotables or from one of his many books, including the latest, Office 2011 for Mac For Dummies, Incredible iPad Apps For Dummies and the upcoming iPad For Dummies. No matter where you know Bob from, you’ll want to join us for this year’s “State of the Mac Address.” There will also be copies of Bob’s books raffled off, and the opportunity to get them autographed by the man himself.

We’ll be taking Bob out for dinner after the meeting, and you’re invited to come along, so plan to make it an evening with Dr. Mac and your friends from HAC.
