Hershey Apple Core April 13, 2016 Dinner

The Hershey Apple Core is changing its model, starting this month. Until further notice, we will be enjoying informal, monthly gatherings on our traditional meeting night on the second Wednesday of each month at a variety of different area restaurants.

This month, as we make the transition from formal meetings to more of a meet-up format, we will gather for dinner and tech talk at 6:30 PM at Ruby Tuesday’s, 3991 Paxton St, Harrisburg, PA 17111. For those who haven’t attended our Meeting-After-The-Meeting dinners before, this is the place we have been going for the past couple years.

If you plan to attend, please email Chuck so we can make reservations and be prepared to welcome you.

We look forward to seeing you, and ushering this new version in the evolution of the Hershey Apple Core.

March 9, 2016 Meeting: The Future

The next meeting of the Hershey Apple Core will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, starting at 6:30 PM at The Orrstown Bank Building (formerly the Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania), 4750 Lindle Road Harrisburg, PA 17111. Directions to the meeting can be found on the HAP web site.

Our topic for this month will be the future of the Hershey Apple Core. If you attended the February meeting and/or are a member of our email list, then you know about some of the unexpected developments with our meeting place. (If you are a member and aren’t aware of any of this, please contact Chuck and he will provide some emailed details.

We will be discussing the various options open to the club, answering your questions, and enjoying each other’s company at the Meeting-After-The-Meeting Dinner, so plan to come out and make your voice heard.

February 10, 2016 Meeting – Stock Apple Apps

The next meeting of the Hershey Apple Core will be held on Wednesday, February 10, starting at 6:30 PM at The Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, 4750 Lindle Road Harrisburg, PA 17111. Directions to the meeting can be found on the HAP web site.

This month, we will look at everything that you can do with the software Apple gives you with your Mac, iPhone and iPad. We all love the high-powered third-party solutions, but sometimes the built-in solutions are enough. At the very least, they get you started so you can decide if you need a bigger, better option.
For a change, this won’t cost you a cent because the apps are already sitting on your devices, just waiting for you to discover their power. Join us to find out what you’re missing.
We will also have the ever-present Question and Answer session, and will resolve any remaining issues at our Meeting-After-The-Meeting dinner. Plan on attending from start to finish and beyond.
NOTE: If there is any question about any weather conditions, we will make a determination, email it out via our group email list and update the web site no later than 5 PM on the date of the meeting.
See you then!

Come out and join us for a great evening of tech talk with one of the Apple community’s true originals.

We will be taking Bob out to dinner after the meeting, so plan to join us as the event continues into the evening.

Oh, who is Bob LeVitus, you ask?

Bob LeVitus, often referred to as “Dr. Mac,” is considered one of the world’s leading authorities on the Macintosh and Mac OS X and has been one of the Mac community’s most trusted gurus for almost twenty years. He’s known for his trademark humorous style and unerring ability to translate “techie” jargon into usable and fun advice for regular folks.

A prolific author, LeVitus has written or co-written over 60 popular computer books and has sold more than two million copies worldwide in at least a dozen languages. His recent titles include: iPhone For Dummies 2nd Edition, Mac OS X Leopard For Dummies, and Microsoft Office 2008 For Mac For Dummies, all for Wiley Publishing.

September 9, 2015 Meeting – Apple Announcements and Summer Catch-Up

The next meeting of the Hershey Apple Core will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, starting at 6:30 PM at The Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, 4750 Lindle Road Harrisburg, PA 17111. Directions to the meeting can be found on the HAP web site.

We’re back from summer vacation, and we hit the ground running thanks to Apple’s September Event that will be held earlier in the day. We will review and discuss the announcements and highlights, play a little catch-up on everyone’s summer and what’s happened since we were together. The topics will range from iPads to Apple Watches and beyond…we really don’t know for sure until Tim Cook takes the stage.

You’ve been saving up all your technical issues since Spring, and we’ll try to answer them all in our Question and Answer session, and then head to a Meeting-After-The-Meeting dinner as HAC re-engages for our Fall semester. Hope to see you there!

May 13, 2015 Meeting: Apple Watch, Real Backup Strategies and Mac Maintenance

The next meeting of the Hershey Apple Core will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, starting at 6:30 PM at The Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, 4750 Lindle Road Harrisburg, PA 17111. Directions to the meeting can be found on the HAP web site.

Our May meeting will be our last before the Summer Break, so we want to leave you with lots of information to get you through to the Fall.

First, we’ll look at the latest product in Apple’s line, the Apple Watch. Did you get one? Do you have one ordered? There will be at least one at the meeting so you can see it firsthand. Find out what the owner(s) think about having information of many kinds on their wrist, and whether you should be the next to slip one on.

Backups are always a popular topic, since it is something that everyone knows they should do, but so many don’t. We’ll give you tips on making it simple but effective, no matter how much effort you want or don’t want to put into it.

Another always popular topic is Mac maintenance. If we have time, we’ll take you through a few simple things you can do to keep your Mac running smoothly.

The evening will wrap with our Meeting-After-The-Meeting Dinner, so plan to join us from start to finish.
